I cannot believe that Quarter 3 is finished at the end of this week! We have covered so much ground this quarter and the students have really grown. Thank you for your support in assisting your student with their Tower of Books. 🙂 If your student has not already brought in their favorite book, please make sure they do so that they are able to complete their project. We are so excited to share our favorite books and original poems with you this upcoming Wednesday March 27th at our Open Mic/Book Tasting Event.
Here are the happenings for this coming week:
Report cards will go home next Friday (April 5th).
Book Tasting/Open Mic: Our “Starbooks” book tasting/open mic this quarter will take place on Wednesday March 27th at 12:00pm 🙂 Students will be reading their original poetry and sharing their favorite book from this quarter’s TOB. Hope to see you there! I am looking to provide mini water bottles and either donuts or muffins for the students. If you are able to donate either of these, please email me 🙂
Math– We are continuing to solve a variety of word problems involving length. Students are reading word problems, writing matching equations, and then solving using a strategy they have learned this year. We will have an assessment over length word problems on Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday we will revisit measuring with some fun activities like measurement games and guessing games.
Social Studies/Science: Our main focus this week will be to prepare for our open mic and book tasting. We will also be finishing up our Weather unit.
Reading– This week we are continuing to review all standards we learned this quarter.
Letterland: We are on Unit 23 of Letterland. This unit focuses on the vowel stealer Orvil Or. We will be learning the r-controlled sounds -oor, ore, and our as in the words door, shore, and your. A friendly reminder of our spelling procedures, students take their spelling notebooks home on Mondays and bring it back for a completion check on Fridays. Spelling assessments will be given on Fridays.
Writing: This week we are choosing our favorite poem that we have written during our poetry unit and will be typing it on a Google Document. This is a great way for students to not only publish their work, but also work on typing skills. We can’t wait to share all of our creative work with you at our poetry open mic on Wednesday March 27th from 12-1pm!
Spring Fling: The 2nd Annual PUE Spring Fling will be held on Sunday, March 31st, from 2pm-5pm. In lieu of a class basket for the silent auction, the second grade teachers will be offering an experience. We will be hosting a “Pancake Breakfast” complete with all the fixings. Each teacher will have a certificate to bid on during the auction and the recipient will be a VIP guest at our “Pancake Breakfast.” Please note that the auction will go live 1 week before the Spring Fling and run 1 week after the event until Sunday, April 7. Please visit the PUE member hub if you are able to volunteer at this event! This event is always so much fun and we can’t wait to see you all there! What a great way to celebrate track out!
